Virgie Burns Arnold

Virgie Arnold fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Thursday, June 2, 2011 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 97 years 11 months 2 days, just 20 days short of her 98th birthday, surrounded by her family at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant, Oklahoma. She was born to Morgan and Julia (Knipe) Burns on Sunday, June 22, 1913 in Gober, Texas. Virgie married Claud Arnold on Christmas Day, December 25, 1933. Claud preceded her in death on June 19, 2006.

Virgie loved watching sports, especially OU, Cowboys and Mavs. She loved being outside tending her flowers and watching birds and squirrels. She enjoyed cooking, but most of all, she loved being with her family. Those fortunate enough to have shared her life are: her son, Donald Wayne Arnold and wife Betty of Utica, Oklahoma; daughter, Claudine Cordray of Hurst, Texas; sister, Freda Barnette and husband James of Durant, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Eunice McCutcheon of Durant, Oklahoma; grandson, Terry Cordray of Ft. Worth, Texas; granddaughters, Renee MacNeill and husband Keith of Hurst, Texas, Regina Clinton and husband Kelly of Durant, Oklahoma, Mechille Rice of Calera, Oklahoma; great-grandsons, Shelby Rice, Taylor Rice, and Christian MacNeill; great-granddaughters, April Clinton and Paige Clinton; as well as many other relatives and friends who loved her dearly and will carry with them fond memories of her life and time spent with her.

Virgie is preceded in death by her parents, Morgan and Julia Burns; husband, Claud Arnold; brothers, Jess Burns, Lonnie Burns; and sister, Verna Lucille Armstrong.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2011at Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Jay Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Durant, Oklahoma. Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Cordray, Keith MacNeill, Shelby Rice, Frank Stricklen, Kelly Clinton, and Rodney Tedder.
