Elgan Reynolds, 98, of Colbert, Oklahoma, passed away at his home, Friday, February 4, 2011. He was born Saturday October 19, 1912 to Kelly and Maggie(Hawkins) Reynolds. He married Vera Garner on November 17, 1930.

Born to a family of 10 children he learned to work early in life, one of his early jobs was operating the ferry used to cross the Red River. He also worked to help build the Denison Dam. One of his greatest passions was also work that he began early in life, that work involved cattle. He began buying dairy cows which he eventually grew into a very successful business, until he quit in the mid sixties and then devoted his time to raising cattle. He was an excellent businessman and he physically worked until the age of 83. If there was ever a man supposed to be milking or raising cattle, it was Elgan. He lived a simple life, he did not require much, but he absolutely loved what he did. He had a great work ethic and impressed this on his family. One of the most important things to remember about this man is his love for his family. There wasn't a child who ever met him that didn't instantly fall in love with him. He was great with kids and loved to make them laugh. He was a Great Grandad. Memories of ridin' on the tractor, or diving the truck through the pasture to feed the cows, will never be forgotten. He also was generous to those who needed help and he was known to treat everyone fair. He was an avid baseball fan and also loved to play. He was known to try and sneak away on a Sunday afternoon to play, he really loved the game.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera; his brothers Charlie, Willie, Johnnie, Arduth, and Paul; and his sisters Mattie Young, Ella Kuykendall, Bettie Wallace, and Fannie Scoggins and son-in-law Emmett Morrison.

Elgan is survived by his daughter Barbara Morrison, and his son Bobby Reynolds and wife, Betty; also his grandchildren Gary Morrison and wife, Mary Ann; Debbie Woodson and husband, Dave; Lori Barnett and husband, Bruce; Donna Reynolds and husband Armand Geneau; Dana Schild and husband Randy, and Shelly Reynolds. His great grandchildren Kenny Morrison, Stephanie and Derek Baugh, Callie, Brooke, and Parker Barnett, and Amy Nunley. He has eight great great grandchildren, Anthony, Makayla, and Van; Trevor & Kaylee; Olivia and Braden; and Tyler. Pallbearers will be Larry Reynolds, Kenneth Taylor, Randy Schild, Gary Morrison, Derek Baugh, Bruce Barnett, Bob Krueger, Dave Woodson and honorary pallbearer, Kenny Morrison.

Services will be held at the Colbert First Baptist Church on Tuesday February 8th at 10:00am. Internment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Colbert, Oklahoma. There will be a dinner at the church for the family following the services. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, please donate to the building fund at the Colbert First Baptist Church.

Arrangements: Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home, Durant, Oklahoma.
