Martha L. Phillips Smith

Martha Smith a resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the age of 70 years and 26 days. She was born on Friday, August 1, 1944 in Bokchito, Oklahoma to Charles Winston and Edith Francis (Sluder) Phillips. Martha Phillips married Johnny Smith in McKinney, Texas on Tuesday, November 15, 1960.

Martha enjoyed life to the fullest she loved spending time with her kids, grandkids and the rest of her family. Martha was most comfortable sitting at the end of the table with a cup of coffee and a cigarette and the thoughts in her head. Martha enjoyed homemaking, home interior design and she was a foster mother for many years. Martha looked forward to breakfast at Wrights drive in every morning and always looked for a good ice cream and a nap in the afternoon. In her younger days she enjoyed going to the rooster fights. Most of all she loved being with her husband and you could see her everlasting love shine till she lost her battle to Cancer.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Johnny F. Smith of Durant, Oklahoma; daughter, Patricia Welch and husband John of Silo, Oklahoma; son, Johnny Smith and wife Darla of Kingston, Oklahoma; daughter, Louinda Farris and husband Jason of Mead, Oklahoma; son, Duck (Smith) Camble of Durant, Oklahoma; sisters, Bea Ladd and husband Rodger of Durant, Oklahoma, Dessie Henry of Caney, Oklahoma, Betty G. Gilbert of Durant, Oklahoma and Rudene Van Burnt of Junction, Texas; brothers, Jimmy Phillips and wife Mary of Silo, Oklahoma and Chock Collum and wife Bessie of Perkins, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Letisha Eddins of Mead, Oklahoma, Amanda Burk of Durant, Oklahoma, Derick Hampton of Blue, Oklahoma, Pricilla Coulter and husband Will of Durant, Oklahoma, Chris Smith and wife Kelley of Bokchito, Oklahoma, Hoss Williams and wife Tamara of Bokchito, Oklahoma and Joni Dubrowski and husband Nick of Bokchito, Oklahoma; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Edith Phillips; daughter, Brenda D. Hampton; sisters, Bonnie Phillips and Hazel Allen; half-brothers, Raymond Collum; half-sisters, Imogene Heflin and Nette Mae Rich; grandsons, Justin, Jacob, Johnathan and Dustin Hampton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family Hour will be from 2-3:00 PM Sunday, August 31, 2014 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A Service in her honor will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Holmes Coffey Murray Chapel with Bro. Jesse Farrell officiating. Interment will follow at Bokchito Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Hoss Williams, Chris Smith, Will Coulter, Kevin Blackburn, Rodney Brooks and James Hendricks.
