Jerry Bernard a resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed way in Denison, Texas on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the age of 71 years 2 months and 16 days. He was born in Tulare, California to James Harold and Jean (Riggins) Bernard on Monday, December 22, 1941. Jerry married Velva Dean Jeffcoat at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mead, Oklahoma on Saturday, November 13, 1993.

Jerry served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mead, Oklahoma and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Jerry enjoyed reading, and studying history and he also liked to watch John Wayne movies.

Mr. Bernard is survived by his wife, Dean of the home; step-son, Jason Carter of Mead, Oklahoma; several cousins and a host of friends.

Mr. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jean Bernard; brother, Donald Bernard.

A Family Hour will be from 7-8:00 PM Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mead with Rev. Randy Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at the Bokchito Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Tommy Rowland, Danny Spoon, Val Lucas, Dennis Bowen, Dereck Bowen and Jason Lowery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Sunday School Class of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
