Ulysses Samuel Cole, who formerly resided in this county near Reydon died last Sunday, June 28, 1931 and was buried at Roselawn Cemetery in Okeene, Oklahoma where he was residing.

His wife will be remembered as the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Walters, Miss Vergie Mae Walters.

It seems that his death which was very tragic was the result of the inhalation of gas from a well. Mr. Cole was employed in the gypsum works plant at Southard which is quite a large plant and he was called to look after a well belonging to the company.

According to those who were with him, he tested the well thoroughly with a lantern letting it down twice, the fumes extinguished the flames each time and finally letting it down with the flames remaining burning. He then went down into the well and came out with no ill effect, seemingly, except from being tired.

After going home in the evening he drove with his family to Canton nearby. After returning home he complained of not being able to breathe when he would lie down and later began coughing and passed away about noon the following day.

Mrs. S. S. McColgin, Mrs. Grant McColgin and Mrs. Easterling, all of the vicinity of Reydon went to Southard to be present at the funeral. They report that the funeral was very largely attended and that the floral offering was very extensive and beautiful.
