STEVEN LARRY DUNGAN


The funeral service for Steven Larry Dungan will be Monday, July 3, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at Okeene High School Auditorium in Okeene with Brother Allen Moss and Brother Freddie Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Homestead Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Okeene. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.lanmanfuneral homes.com. Visitation will be today from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Steven Larry Dungan was born in El Reno on December 8, 1946 to Leonard and Frances (Schroeder) Dungan and went to meet the Lord on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at his home in Okeene. He attended St. John’s Lutheran Grade School and Okeene High School, graduating in 1965. He then attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a business degree in 1969. Following graduation he became Chief Accountant at OSU. Upon returning to Okeene in 1973, he went to work for State Guaranty Bank in the loan office, until opening a CPA office in the late 1970s. In 1976 he was named an Outstanding Young Man of America. He was elected to the Okeene Town Council and served as Mayor from 1975-1981. He held the offices of President and Treasurer of the Okeene Rattlesnake Hunters Association, was Treasurer of Kiwanis, and a member of the Okeene Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Okeene Industrial Committee, which developed the Okeene Industrial Park. He was instrumental in recruiting Seaboard, Mountain Country Foods, and Prairiegold to start businesses in Okeene. He was currently Okeene’s City Administrator and the owner of a CPA business. Steve loved living and working in this community, and he strived to help the town and its people in any way that he could. He enjoyed antiquing and going to auctions with his wife, Mary, farming, OSU sports and spending time with his grandchildren. He was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in August of 1997.

Steve is survived by his wife, Mary of Okeene; children, John and Melanie Dungan of Nevada, Iowa, Kathy Dungan of Bixby, Mark and Shawna Dungan of Marysville, Washington, Kris and Jeremy Osmus of Okeene, Glynn and Allie Smith of Moore, Guy and Jamie Smith of Okeene, Jason and Treva Smith of Grapevine,Texas and Jamie and Kelly Boyer of Stillwater; his parents, Leonard and Frances Dungan of Enid; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Lee of Okeene; two brothers, Dale Dungan and wife, Kim of Prior Lake, Minnesota and David Dungan and wife, Linda of Homestead; one sister, Sue Reames of Enid; 15 grandchildren and many other family, brethren and friends.

Memorials may be made in Steve’s name to the Okeene Fire Department or the Okeene Jaycees through the funeral home. (Paid Obit 7-2-1)
