Joe Hewitt
(May 22, 1930 - March 2, 2012)

On the 2nd day of March, 2012, at 1:00 in the morning, Joe Hewitt left this world as we know it. He entered this world on the 22nd day of May, 1930 at Oakwood, Oklahoma, the son of Ruth Malatka Hewitt and Leo Clyde Hewitt. He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers; Eugene in infancy, Norman, Bus (Wayne), and Forrest. In 1971, he and Gwen were united in marriage. Joe is survived by his wife Gwen of the home near Canton. One son, Glen Hyden of Prague, Glen's wife Kim, and their daughters McKenna and Graceyn. He is survived by two sisters, Pauline, Oklahoma City; Mary June and husband Bob, Burneyville, and one sister-in-law, Imogene, Canton. He is also survived by three step-children from a prior marriage, George, Jeff, Jennifer; granddaughter, Tiffany. He was a life-long farmer, living most of his life in Oklahoma with the exception of a few years in Idaho. He was a veteran, having served in the Army. He attended Fairmont School west of Oakwood, then a year of high school at Oakwood before striking out on his own. Later, he returned to Oklahoma at Canton where he lived and farmed. He also farmed near Oakwood. In between days and nights of running tractor and pulling calves, he enjoyed his dogs, July and Walker hounds that chased coyotes. He enjoyed outside activities, his cattle, plowing Oklahoma red dirt. Joe liked spectator sports, game show quizzes, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and granddaughters, McKenna and Graceyn. Services are to be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2012 in the First Baptist Church Canton, Steve Driskill and Lloyd Lance officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Oakwood under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home..
