Melissa Big Medicine
(January 2, 1979 - July 23, 2014)
A traditional wake service will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday evening, July 25, 2014 at the Canton Native American Gymnasium for Melissa Wayne Sister Big Medicine, 35, of Watonga, Oklahoma with Rev. Gerald Panana officiating. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the same location.

Melissa, or Sister, as she was lovingly referred to by her family, was born January 2, 1979 at Okeene, Oklahoma to Joseph and Eva (Redhat) Big Medicine. She departed this life on July 23, 2014 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Melissa attended school in Canton and enjoyed being with her nieces and nephews and planning family get-togethers. She loved Dirty Dancing, Elvis Presley, listening to oldies music and making people happy. Lets not forget her Dr. Pepper and her beading. She loved Betty Boop, and her favorite color was red. She loved her red lipstick, and taking pictures and making memories of all her nieces and nephews. She liked teasing with her brother-in-laws. She loved making little candy treat bags for all her nieces and nephews. They didn't call her Auntie, she was simply Sister.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather Cheyenne Arrowkeeper Edward Redhat, grandfather Cheyenne Arrowkeeper William Wayne Redhat, Sr., grandmother Minnie Redhat, grandfather Joseph Big Medicine, Sr., grandmother Emma Jean Black Bear, aunts Marilyn Redhat and Minoma Redhat Koshiway, cousins Christopher Wayne Redhat, Michelle Shelby Redhat, nephew Benjamin Ross Big Medicine, Jr., and uncle Edward Redhat; Pallbearers will be the Cheyenne Bowstring Society.

Survivors include her parents, Joseph and Eva Big Medicine of Watonga, OK; her son, William Luke Lobaugh of Watonga, OK; brothers and sisters Joseph Big Medicine, III of Gallup, NM, Steven Big Medicine of Watonga, OK, Benjamin Ross Big Medicine, Sr. of Watonga, OK, Horace Joe Big Medicine, Sr., Tabitha Lynn Big Medicine and Shannon Littleman all of Hammon, OK, Frank Redhat, Robert Redhat, Jr. and Olivia Stead all of Fairview, OK; nieces and nephews Tamara Big Medicine, Aaron Big Medicine, Jayden Big Medicine, Joeann Big Medicine and Jonathan Big Medicine; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family; Memorials may be made to the funeral home at P.O.
