Glenda Kay (Cheney) Ruiz, 59, of Longdale, Oklahoma departed this life on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at her childhood home surrounded by her family following an eight year long battle with cancer.

Glenda was born April 23, 1964 at Spearman, Texas to Harry and Adelia “Dee” Cheney. She was raised in Longdale, sharing in shenanigans with her all her siblings and many cousins. She attended school at Longdale until the 8th grade before graduating with the class of 1982 at Canton High School. She married Michael David Scott on May 5, 1986 at Canton, Oklahoma. After Mike’s passing, she later married Jose Ruiz on July 7, 2012 at Longdale, Oklahoma.

Glenda was a pillar in the Longdale and Canton communities who never met a stranger. She was an avid Canton High School sports, FFA, 4H, and Longdale Fire Department supporter. She lived a life of selflessness and service to others. Glenda proudly shared her Arapaho-Pueblo heritage through food, benefit dances and powwows. Her hobbies included camping, fishing, gardening, going to the casino, sleepovers with her granddaughter Gumby, Sloppy Beers at the Overlook with her daughter Mikey, and loving her family and friends fiercely.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mike Scott; and brother Leon Cheney; She is survived by her husband Jose Ruiz of Longdale, OK; son Tyson Scott and wife Amanda of Longdale, OK; daughter Micah Riggs and husband Brian of Beaver, OK; sisters Stella Morris and husband Michael of Enid, OK and Ramona Brassfield and husband Doug of Seiling, OK; brothers Robert Cheney, Sr. of Longdale, OK and Tony Cheney and wife Telina of Fairview, OK; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Wake services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 12, 2023 and funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Canton Emergency Response Center with Pastor Michael Grigsby, Pastor James Scott, and Arapaho Woman Chief, Keeper of the Sacred Pipe Frances Bates officiating. Interment will follow at Canton Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Longdale Gym Association with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724. Condolences may be made online at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
