Ora Virginia (Reed) Hicks Rooker
December 28, 1920 ~ December 8, 2021

Ora Virginia (Reed) Hicks Rooker passed away peacefully December 8th, 2021. Ora was born December 28th, 1920, in Canton, Oklahoma to parents Charles Oliver Reed and Cleo Anna (Garl) Reed.

Ora was raised in Canton where she also attended school. Ora had 6 siblings Archie (Bus), Anna, Dewey, Ray, Doris and Dean, only 5 of which survived to adulthood. Ora grew up during the depression when times were hard, so she learned to save and manage. Ora married Robert Lee Hicks on September 7th, 1939, and they lived in Canton, OK. Ora and Robert had 2 children, son Robert Lee Hicks Jr. born August 7, 1940, and daughter Rita Carol born July 3, 1943. Ora and Robert always raised a large garden which Ora canned most of the food for use during the winter months. She also loved sewing clothes for the family. They continued life until Robert passed away on March 29, 1999 after 59 years of marriage. Later after Robert’s passing Ora married Oliver Rooker on July 8, 2000. Oliver passed away December 13, 2004. Ora continued living alone in the same house that she and Robert built together until the last several years of her life.

Ora was preceded in death by her parents, 6 siblings, husbands Robert L Hicks and Oliver Rooker, son Robert (Bobby) Hicks, grandsons Freddie McCurdy and Shawn McCurdy. She is survived by daughter Rita Carol McCurdy and husband Floyd of Claremore; two stepsons Maynard Rooker and wife Betty of Canton; and Leroy Rooker and wife Nancy of Arlington, VA. Also surviving are grandchildren Eric McCurdy and wife Lisa of Claremore; Chris McCurdy of Dallas, TX; Tana Lloyd of Las Vegas, NV; Tracy Hicks and wife Connie of Canton; Ladonna Levings of Fairview; Crystal Nelson and husband Shane of Fairview; six step-grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Monday, December 13, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Canton Cemetery with Reverend Mike McReynolds officiating. Ora will be interred beside her husband Robert Hicks. Memorials may be made to the Major County Senior Citizens in memory of Ora. Condolence messages may be written at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
