Kathryn E. (Masonhall) Denton

Kathryn E. (Masonhall) Denton
August 22, 1953 ~ May 11, 2022

Kathryn Elaine was born on August 22, 1953, to Glen and Mamie Masonhall in Watonga, Oklahoma. Kathryn was raised on her family's ancestral farm near Canton, OK, where she attended school and was a lifelong and active member of the United Methodist Church.

In 1966, Kathryn first met Dean Denton in school at Canton where she would graduate from in 1971. After graduation, Kathryn attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University before working as an office administrator for Delhi Gas Corporation. Kathryn remained at Delhi until they closed the Canton office in 1991.

Thirteen years after first meeting, Kathryn married the love of her life, William Dean Denton, on October 26, 1979, at the Canton United Methodist Church. Dean and Kathryn enjoyed their time with one another and often went fishing and hunting, where Kathryn frequently out-shot Dean.

On October 29, 1985, Kathryn delivered her beloved son, William Ray. Kathryn loved being a mother, and William was the joy of her life. In addition to taking their son with them on hunting, fishing, and camping trips, Kathryn frequently welcomed other kids on their vacations. Kathryn dedicated much of her time to William's school, sports, and Scouting activities, and, as a result, she was awarded "Mother of the Year" in 1996. As William's endeavors grew, Kathryn was just as dedicated as ever to help him achieve his dreams. She was exceptionally proud when William became an Eagle Scout, and when he became a United States Marine there was never a more proud mother. When Will deployed to Afghanistan, Kathryn ensured that her son and his fellow Marines frequently received care packages, letters, and cards.

Much of Kathryn's life was dedicated in service to others, whether it was in her capacity as President of the United Methodist Women or as an individual. Every year Kathryn would help provide school supplies for students and a large meal for the faculty at Canton Schools. She frequently provided meals and company to those who needed either. Kathryn and Dean ran an arcade in Canton so the local youth would have a safe place to congregate and have fun. Wherever Kathryn saw a need, she would do whatever she could to fill that need.

In the midst of a fun, busy life, Kathryn was diagnosed in 1988 with Multiple Sclerosis, and as her MS progressed she utilized humor to get her through the tough times. Kathryn embraced humor and used it to help others through their struggles; in her purse she would always have the most recent funny email she had printed off, which she would quickly pull out and hand to whomever needed a quick chuckle.

Kathryn and Dean farmed wheat and red Angus cattle in Canton and Eagle City, and in 1996 Dean and Kathryn were recognized as the "Blaine County Farm Family of the Year." In May 2009, Kathryn joyfully became a grandma to William Marshall, and, later, to Leam Mattis, Amelia Grace, and Adeline Olivia. Grandma Kathryn loved and doted on her grandkids and always ensured that she had honeybuns, hugs, and kisses on hand for when they would come up to grandma's house through the pasture. There was never a shortage of peanut M&M's or Grandma Kathryn's hugs and kisses.

On May 11, 2022, Kathryn Elaine (Masonhall) Denton exchanged her earthly struggles for a heavenly crown after several months of battling illnesses exacerbated by her MS. Kathryn passed from this earth embraced by the love of her life, Dean, and the joy of her life, Will, and was met in Heaven by her parents Glen Ray and Mamie Irene (Acre) Masonhall, her brother Wesley Ray Masonhall, her paternal grandparents Albert and Addie Masonhall, maternal grandparents Charles and Margaret Acre, and her in-laws Grant and Ruth Opal Denton.

Kathryn is survived by her husband William Dean Denton, son William Ray and daughter-in-law Amanda Denton, and grandchildren William Marshall, Leam Mattis, Amelia Grace, and Adeline Olivia Denton, all of Canton; her sister Glenace Louise (Masonhall) Butler of Fairview; nephew Glen Habbershaw of Virginia; sister-in-law Charlotte (Barker) Masonhall of Eagle City; niece Addie Sue (Masonhall) and husband Daniel Thornton and daughters Katie Sue and Sydney Rae of Texas; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Canton United Methodist Church, with Pastor Daniel Hammans officiating. Interment will follow at Canton Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made in Kathryn's honor to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724. Condolences may be made online at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
