Ailene Carolyn (Mayes) DeMoss

Ailene Carolyn (Mayes) DeMoss
???? ~ October 4, 2017 | Age 89

Ailene Carolyn (Mayes) DeMoss passed away peacefully with family at her bedside on October 4, 2017, at age 89 from complications of pneumonia.

She was born in the Alva area and attended school both in Alva and Ferry, where she graduated from high school. Ailene married Kenneth Roy DeMoss at age 21 and was a long time resident of the Longdale/Canton area, where she worked at the Canton bank and on the family farm. She was an active member of the Longdale Community Church, where she acted as bookkeeper until earlier this year. She also was a volunteer at the Longdale Community Center and helped serve the free Thanksgiving meal offered there each year including last year's celebration. In the summers she volunteered for the Longdale Bible School for children of the surrounding communities, something she really enjoyed.

Mom/Grandma/Granny truly lived the golden rule, treating every person with respect, caring, and warmth. She understood that to grow your love, you have to give it away. Her loss leaves a hole in the hearts of those who loved her in return.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, parents George and Rosy Mayes, sister Rosie Erickson and husband Virgil (Buster), brother George (Bud) Mayes, brother-in-law J.R. Miller, nephew Kenny Miller, and granddaughter Christa Combs.

Ailene is survived by her son Terry DeMoss and wife Jackie Campbell of Piedmont OK, son Harold DeMoss and wife Martha of Broken Arrow, OK; granddaughters Brenda Johnson and husband Dave of Longdale and Lora Johnson and her husband Troy of Longdale; grandsons Geoff DeMoss and his wife Carmita of New York City, NY and Ian DeMoss of Tulsa, OK; great granddaughter Amber Johannesmeyer and her husband Derek of Okeene, OK, great grandson T.J. Pembrook of Longdale, OK, great grandson Zane Foster and great grandson Kenneth Troy (Deuce) Johnson, both of Longdale, OK, great grandson Clay DeMoss of New York City, NY, great granddaughter Mickie Eikenberry of Stillwater, OK, and great grandson John David Craft of Elk City, OK; and great-great granddaughter Danny Jo Pembrook and great-great granddaughter Violet Johannesmeyer of Okeene, OK; sister-in-law Gladis Mayes, nephew Kenny Mayes and wife Amy, niece Deanna Perks and husband Benny all of Alva, sister-in-law Earlene Miller, nephew Randy Miller and wife Kerry, niece Sherry Brewer and husband James all of Muskogee, OK, and numerous other family members and many friends. The family also extends a special thanks to Susie DeMoss of Longdale for her loving concern and care of Mom in her last days.

Visitation with the family present will be held on Friday evening from 6 – 8:00 p.m., at Pierce Funeral Home, 721 S. Main, Fairview. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Longdale Gymnasium with Pastor Lucas White officiating. Interment will follow in Canton Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Fairview, OK. Condolences may be made online at www.piercefuneralhomes.com
