James Willie Burghardt


January 11, 1936 ~ January 30, 2018

Funeral services for James "Jim" Burghardt, 82, of Canton, OK, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 2, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Canton with Pastor Travis McIntosh officiating. Interment will follow in Canton Cemetery under direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton.

James Willie Burghardt was born January 11, 1936 at Oakwood, OK to Wilber and Maggie (Bates) Burghardt. He departed this life on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Weatherford, OK. Jim graduated in 1955 from Oakwood High School and then went into the Army. After four years of service he was honorably discharged and then served in the National Guard. Jim attended Okmulgee Tech to study mechanics. Jim and Betty Mauldin were married in 1959 in Canton,OK where they made their home and had three children, Betty Jo, Jimmy and Allen. Jim worked at Southard for a number of years and also drove the school bus at Canton for many years. Jim and Betty moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico and the Texas pandhandle before moving back to Canton where he worked for Alvadean Bond until the age of 76.

Jim was preceded in death by parents and two sisters, Gertrude and Sylvia.

Jim is survived by his wife Betty of Weatherford, OK; one daughter, Betty Jo Boland and husband Cliff of Darrouzett, TX, and two sons, Jimmy Burghardt and wife Kelly of Booker, TX and Allen Burghardt and wife Linda of Alamogordo, New Mexico; eight grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert Burghardt and wife Jo Ann of Watonga, OK.
