Elsie D. Bateman
(April 12, 1914 - July 18, 2009)

Elsie D. Bateman was born April 12, 1914, to Frank P. and Mattie (Hubble) Bates in Canton, Oklahoma at the original home she has lived in for 94 years. In 2008, Elsie’s health forced her to move to the Summit Living Center in Okeene, Oklahoma. She passed away on July 18, 2009, in Okeene, Oklahoma at the age of 95 years.
During Elsie’s life, she operated many cafes and ran a portable roller skating rink with her brother. She also worked art the Bank of Canton and loved to travel. She was blessed to have been able to travel to many places with good friends at her side. She also had a special love for animals and had pets all her life. Elsie had been a member of the Canton Christian Church since April 5, 1953.
In 1938, she married Tandy R, Bateman and they had one son, Randy F. Bateman. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Tandy, her son Randy in 2004, her brothers Boyd Bates and Hod Bates, and her nephew Rodney Bates, niece’s Joyce Elaine Young and Sug Foley. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Pat Bateman, Canton, and several great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at the Canton Cemetery 10:00 Monday morning with Glen Blood officiating, under direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Canton Ambulance Service of the Canton Fire Department through the funeral home.
