Nora Colleen Reed Murphy is finally reunited with the love of her life, Lomax Melville Murphy. Nora Colleen was the only (living) child of Clarence Grigsby and Minnie Annetta (Danner) Reed. She was born April 25, 1926 and joined Lomax in their heavenly home on July 15, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lomax Melville Murphy; her parents, Clarence and Minnie Reed; 1 infant sister, her mother and father in law, William Melville and Nova Claude Murphy; 2 infant grandsons, Eugene Henry and Christopher Rick Hanks; brother-n-law Paul Ackerman, Sr. sister and brother-in law, Norvel and Ernestine West; a nephew, N.J. West.

Nora Colleen grew up in Sayre assisting her parents with their café and bus station business, where she sold her future husband, Lomax, a ticket to California in the year of her graduation, 1944. They were married that same year and had 51 years together until Lomax’s death in 1995. She and Lomax moved after graduation to Newport News, VA for his military service.

Their union was blessed with happiness, love and respect by 5 children. Nora Colleen is survived by her children Lomax Jr. and wife Marilyn, Ninety Six, SC; Annette Murphy and husband Dan Martin, Oklahoma City, OK; Michael Murphy and wife Karrol, Kansas City, MO; Kay Hanks and husband Rick of Oklahoma City, OK; and Gay Williams and husband Richard, Oklahoma City, OK; 8 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; a sister –n –law, Willie Jean Ackerman, Oklahoma City, OK; 1 niece, Ann Ackerman and husband Wayne Stone, Oklahoma City, OK; 1 nephew, Paul Ackerman Jr. and wife Pam, Norman, OK; 1 great niece, 1 great nephew, 1 great- great nephew and a host of other relatives and friends.

Nora Colleen was a homemaker and assisted Lomax in his auctioneering career. She was actively involved in the Sayre First United Methodist Church where her paternal grandmother and her maternal great-grandfather were charter members. Among Nora Colleen’s contributions to the community she served as a homeroom mother, Girl Scout leader, Eastern Star member and officer, participated in En Avant and PEO organizations.
