Lester Leon Hobbs, Sr., was born February 7, 1932, in Erick, Oklahoma, the youngest of four children born to Leonard Lester and Mamie Bryan (Hance) Hobbs. He passed peacefully to his eternal home December 23, 2020, at the home of his son Lionel and his wife Deb, who provided love and comfort in his final days.

Leon was a 1949 graduate of Erick High School. He was united in marriage to Lavell (Parson) on October 13, 1951. To this union three children were born. Leon and Lavell worked side by side farming and beginning various businesses in the Erick community. Establishing a Christian home was their priority. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage before her death on March 24, 2006. 
Leon served faithfully as a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Erick for over 60 years. In 2017, he was honored for serving as church treasurer for 53 years. Leon was employed as a bookkeeper for the Erick Farmers Coop for many years. He was recognized in 1992, for completing 25 years of service to the A.S.C.S office at Sayre, where he was office and field supervisor. His hobbies included bowling, golfing, woodworking and cheering on the Oklahoma Sooners. His greatest joy was faithfully supporting and attending his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. On June 7, 2011, he married Betty (Baker) Turner.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Faye Swearingen and Sue Soule and his wife Lavell.

Survivors include his wife Betty of the home, Erick, OK; one daughter: Linda Brookshire and husband Doug, Panhandle, TX; two sons: Leon Jr. (Butch) and wife Jyl, Mountain View, OK; Lionel and wife Deb, Carnegie, OK;  seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister: Billie Wallingford, Newalla, OK; three step-children: Craig Emmert, Leon Turner and Candace Habekott, as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral services are planned for Monday, December 28, 2020, 1:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Erick with interment to follow in the Erick Cemetery under the direction of Whinery Funeral Services, Sayre, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1243, Erick, OK 73645
