George C. Sweatt
Helena, OK. -- The funeral for George Clay Sweatt, 85, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Helena First Christian Church. The Revs. Bill Foglesong and Dean Holt will officiate. Burial will be in Timberlake Cemetery, northeast of Helena, under the direction of Kenny Lanman Funeral Home.
The casket will be open at the church before the service.
He was born August 9, 1907 on a farm northeast of Helena to Newt and Maude Burnside Sweatt and died Monday Feb. 22, 1993 at the Fairview Hospital. He attended Star School, then graduated from Helena High School in 1927. He attended college at Lawton, OK.
On Jan. 12, 1942, he married Edith Ellen Smith at El Reno, OK. He was a farmer and lived on the farm until May of 1988 when they moved into Helena. He belonged to the Helena, Goltry and Jet Co-op Associations and was a member of Helena First Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Connie R. Roberts and Jo Frances Johnson of Helena, OK. and LaVeta Overman of Nampa, ID.; one brother, Noble of Helena, OK.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, (Eva).
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Helena Christian Church or the Nazarene Church.
