ENID — JET — Funeral service for William "Bill" Joseph Crain will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at Jet United Methodist Church with Pastors Mary Irby and Jay Drawbridge officiating. Burial will follow in Timberlake Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Helena. Viewing will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memories may be shared with the family at www.lanmanmemorials.com.

William "Bill" Joseph Crain, third child of William Harold and Edna May (Lawyer) Crain, was born Oct. 9, 1923, on the farm his grandfather, William Haines Crain homesteaded and in the house his grandfather built northwest of Goltry, Okla.

He completed his journey in this life Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Cherokee Manor in Cherokee, Okla., where he'd resided since May 21, 2010. His wife, Hilda, and other family members were at his side.

For years he was called Billy Joe, then everyone began calling him Bill. He attended grade school at Pleasant View District I-83 and graduated from Goltry High School in 1941.

He was a member of Jet United Methodist Church and served on the board of trustees. He was caretaker of Timberlake Cemetery for 32 years.

He married Hilda Hope Harmon March 15, 1958, at Christ Methodist Church in Enid, Okla., with Rev. William I. Smith performing the ceremony.

He was a farmer and a carpenter all of his life. Many years he did custom work cutting silage for farmers in the Meno and surrounding areas. He was loyal, honest and punctual. He detested being tardy. Nieces and nephews, his own and those of his wife, were a delight to him.

Bill is survived by his wife, Hilda, of their home; five sisters-in-law, Ila Ruth Crain and Patsy Jane Crain, both of Enid, Betty Boyd Crain of Helena, Mabel May Godfrey and husband Riley of Rolla, Mo., Martha Jane Yoss and husband Bill of Leonard, Texas; many nieces, nephew and cousins.

Those who preceded Bill in death include his parents, Harold and Edna Crain; an infant brother and sister; three brothers, Gene, Jim and Charlie.

Memorials may be given to Hospice Circle of Love or Jet Fire Department through the funeral home.
