Charles Edward "Charlie" Crain
Fifth child born to William Harold and Edna May (Lawyer) Crain June 20, 1929 on the land his grandfather, William Haines Crain, homesteaded and in the house his grandfather built.
He completed his journey in this life Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, in the house he built for his family on their farm northwest of Goltry, surrounded by family.
He was known to most people as "Charlie" but his mother always called him Charles.
He attended grade school at Pleasant View District I-83 and graduated from Goltry High School in 1947.
He married Betty Boyd Sullivan Aug. 2, 1953 at Congregational Church, Goltry, with Rev. Dale Reed performing the ceremony. To this union five children were born, four of whom grew to adulthood.
He was a farmer, carpenter and cattle hauler all of his adult life. He could also be a welder, electrician, plumber, concrete finisher, dozer operator, mechanic or veterinarian, whatever it took to keep things going on the farm.
Charlie and his wife, Betty, loved their children dearly and worked together in word and action to instill in them the value of honesty, loyalty, kindness, willingness to work and dependability. Their children's friends were always welcome in their home. Charlie enjoyed family get-togethers, playing cards with friends, attending his high school reunions and of course, going to livestock sales.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; three sons, Joseph "Joe" Boyd Crain, and Brady Lee Crain, both of Helena, and David Edward Crain and wife, Carol, of Beaumont, Texas; one daughter, Teresa Marie Crain of Enid; one brother, William "Bill" Joseph Crain and wife Hilda of Helena; sisters-in-law, Ila Ruth Crain and Patsy Jane Crain, both of Enid; granddaughters, Amy Carol Blessington and husband Chris of Oklahoma City, and Jodi Lynn Smith and husband Ty of Amorita; great grandchildren, Charles Michael Blessington, Augustus "Gus" Allen Blessington, Dakota Jay Smith and Samantha Carol Smith; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral for Charles will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at First Baptist Church, Helena. Rev. Dale Reed and Pastor Scott Hofen will officiate. Burial will be in Timberlake Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc., Helena. Viewing will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memories may be shared with the family at www.lanmanmemorials.com
Memorials may be given to Hospice Circle of Love or Timberlake Cemetery Association through the funeral home.
