IRMA LOIS MANNING
Irma Lois Manning, 84, Stillwater, died Sunday, December 18, 2005, in Stillwater, OK. Services will be Thursday, December 22, 2005, at The First United Methodist Church in Stillwater at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Stan Warfield will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Jet Cemetery in Jet, OK.
Irma Lois Manning was born August 25, 1921, in Hansen, Idaho. She died in her home in Stillwater,OK. December 18, 2005. Her parents were Perry N. and Sadie Manning. The family moved to Jet, Oklahoma when Irma was four, and then moved to a farm near Jet two years later.
Irma attended grade and high school at Jet and participated at the Jet Methodist Church. At Northwestern State College, Alva, Oklahoma, she completed an M. S. in Ru-ral Adult Education, Home Ec-onomics from Okla-homa State University in 1955. Irma also did post-graduate work at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Chicago.
Irma Manning began her career as a high school home economics teacher in Kansas in 1943. After teaching for five years, she worked for the Oklahoma Coop-erative Extension in Oklahoma 34 years in county, district and state positions. Irma retired in 1981 as Associate Professor and State Leader, Special Programs, Home Economics Cooperative Exten-sion, Oklahoma State University. As a State Leader, Special Programs, she developed and supervised educational programs (EFNEP) to develop abilities of low income, low educational level women to manage their limited resources to achieve a more healthy lifestyle for themselves and their families.
Irma L. Manning has lived in Stillwater for 50 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. For many years she was a Sunday School teacher of the Friendship Class, participated in United Methodist Women, and was a faithful member of the Wednesday morning prayer group. Her other activities included: teaching English to international women, AAUW, Alpha Study Club, OSU Cooperative Extension. Ambas-sadors, AARP, NARFE, and Retired Educators.
Irma’s family members include: brother, Dean Manning and wife Pat, Elkland, MO; brother, Duane Manning, Maquokita, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Virginia Manning, Jet, OK. One brother, Dwight, is deceased. She has eight nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions can be made to Judith Karman Hospice, First United Methodist Church, or OSU Foundation.
