Virginia and Dwight MANNING

Virginia George Manning was born in Jet on May 29, 1919, to Virgil and Mayme George. She departed this earthly life Oct. 28, 2016, at her son's home in Enid, with her family by her side. The service is 2 p.m. today, Nov. 1, 2016, at the Jet United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kaela Burdge officiating. Viewing is 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. today, Nov. 1, 2016, at the church. Burial is in Pleasant View Cemetery, with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Cherokee. Condolences may be made at www.LanmanMemorials.com. ;

Virginia centered her life around her family. She married Dwight Manning Jan. 7, 1939. They lived in the Jet area all their lives. She was Dwight's "right-hand man," no matter if it was slopping the pigs, taking meals to the field, taking the harvested wheat to the elevator, or any of the other tasks being done on the farm.

A woman of many talents, Virginia was a fantastic cook, sewed many beautiful quilts and was always mowing and working in her yard. She especially loved Christmas, always filling her yard with many fantastic Christmas displays. But mostly she doted over her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never missed sporting events, stock shows, or any other activities of her children and grandchildren. She will be missed by all.

She was an active member for 70 years in the Jet Industrious Extension Homemaker Club, always helping with community dinners, getting cookbooks published and designing the T-shirts for the Jet Homecoming Celebration held every five years.

Virginia is survived by son, Ron and wife, Joyce, of Enid, and their children, Lisa, Whitney and her wife, Sadie; grandchildren, Matt Manning and wife, Jeannine, of Mesa, Ariz.; Mikki Grover and husband, Larry, of Wichita Falls, Texas, and their children, Austin and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Colton Manning, of Enid; Aden and Mariah Terryman, of Wichita Falls, Texas; and special care-givers, John and Shanna Gehey, of Enid.

Virginia is predeceased by her husband, Dwight; parents, Virgil and Mayme George; son, Jerry Manning and granddaughter, Ronda Manning.

Memorials may be made to the Jet Senior Citizens, Jet Community Building or Ross Hospice Care, with Lanman Funeral Home serving as custodian.
