Funeral service for James “Jim” Newton Jett, 81, were held Friday, October 31, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Nash First Christian Church. Burial followed at Pleasant View Cemetery north of Jet with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee. www.lanmanmemorials.com

James “Jim” Newton Jett was born the 24th of December 1932 to Elbert Jett of Jet and Dorothy (Kellan) Jett of Cherokee. A graduate of Jet High School and off to the military from 1953-1955,

Jim married Barbara Lou Huff of Jet in 1956. Jim had many passions including his family, antique tractor pulling, his Studebaker pickup and the community of Jet, Oklahoma.

The union of Jim and Barbara brought three daughters, Brenda (Dwight) Kienast, Belinda (Keith) Hopp and Jenny (Chris) Orr; five grandchildren, Stacy, Leslie, Kevin, Steven and Logan and two great-grandchildren, Lilac and Morrison who ask friends and family to remember Jim with donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation, the Jet Fire Department or the Jet Community Swimming Pool in his honor.

Funeral for Barbara Lou Jett, 77, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015, at First Christian Church of Nash. The Rev. Richard Cravens will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, north of Jet. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc., of Cherokee. Viewing will be 3-6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. www.lanmanmemorials.com.

Barbara was born Sept. 5, 1937, in Cherokee, to Winfred Huff and Mary Evelyn Metcalf Huff, and passed from this life April 22, 2015, at her home in Jet.

Barbara graduated from a tech school in Omaha, Neb.

In 1956, she married James “Jim” Newton Jett, and to this union three daughters were born: Brenda, Belinda and Jenny.

Barbara had lived in the Jet community for more than 31 years, moving from DeWitt, Iowa. She and Jim loved their community and stayed involved in community affairs. Barbara served as Jet city clerk for a number of years. She also was secretary for Jet Senior Citizens, treasurer of Timberlake Cemetery Association, a substitute teacher in Alfalfa County and a member of United Methodist Women. Barbara also was a member of Oklahoma Home and Community Education and its local branch, Jet Industrious, where she served as an officer. Barbara was a member of Nash Christian Church.

Her husband, Jim, preceded her in death, along with her two brothers, Mike and Dennis Huff, and her parents.

Those left to cherish Barbara’s memory include her three daughters, Brenda Kienast and husband Dwight of Pleasantville, Iowa, Belinda Hopp and husband Keith of Silverthorn, Colo., and Jenny Orr and husband Chris of Cherokee; five grandchildren, Stacy Launsdale, Steven Kienast, Leslie Hopp, Kevin Hopp and Logan Orr; three great-grandchildren, Morrison Launsdale, Lilac Launsdale and Henley Hopp.

Memorials may be given to Jet Swimming Pool or Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Pulmonary Division, through the funeral home.
