SHERRY LYNN JAMES GOUCHER
A graveside service for Sherry Lynn James Goucher, 46, of Hennessey, OK., will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Pleasant View Cemetery, Jet, OK. Arrangements are by Henninger-Allen Funeral Home, Enid, OK.
She was born Feb. 20, 1959, at the Naval Hospital, Guam, to Jack and Nelda James and died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at her home.
She graduated from Jet-Nash High School in 1977, where she and her cousin were the first female members of Jet-Nash FFA.
In May 1977, she enlisted in the Marines. She was the first female Marine stationed in Okinawa and also the first female to complete the Marine jungle combat training course.
After she was discharged, she lived in Alaska for eight years. She moved to Nevada in 1988, and worked for the Department of Corrections, Ely, Nev., where she was the first female SWAT team member.
She returned to Oklahoma in 1993 and worked for Department of Corrections as a training officer.
She married Buck Goucher Sept. 23, 1994. They made their home in Hennessey, OK.
Surviving are her husband, Buck of the home; her parents, Jack and Nelda James; two daughters, Bonnie of Oklahoma City and Barbara Stalker of Enid, OK.; two sisters, Cindy Gould and Karri Patterson, both of Enid,OK.; one brother, Leonard James of Yukon, OK.; and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by one son and one brother.
