CHEROKEE — Johnnie Lee Green was born Nov. 14, 1950, in Cherokee, Okla., to Bert and Iola Welch Green.

He grew up on the Green family farm, north of Salt Plains Lake, where he learned to ride horses and work with cattle.

Johnnie attended Jet school from first grade through high school, graduating in 1969. He was active in FFA and showing livestock.

In the summer of 1969, Johnnie married Deborah Foster of Nash. They were blessed with four children, Shane, Brandi, J.J. and Kristel. They resided in Nash.

In 1997, Johnnie married Mary Potter Severe of Jet and was blessed with four more children, Ty, Katrina, Lisa and Jonathan, and a grandson, whom he raised as his own.

Johnnie worked for Grant County and numerous area farmers before joining the fire department of Vance Air Force Base. He worked at Vance as a fireman for 34 years before retiring last May.

Johnnie also served in the National Guard.

Johnnie is survived by his wife, Mary of the home; his mother, Iola Gibson of Cherokee; a sister, Roberta Coulter of Cherokee; brother, Chuck Green of Cherokee; his children, Shane and Amber Green of Jet, Brandi and Byron Dell of Nash, J.J. and Sarah Green of Nash, Kristel and Ryan Steele of Stillwater, Ty and Rochelle Severe of Jet, Katrina and Corey Carden of Oklahoma City and Lisa Severe of Jet. Grandchildren are Jonathan Severe of Enid, Brock, Braden and Braxton Buller of Jet, Chezney and Cade Dell of Nash, Natalee, Hesston and Paizley Green of Nash, Savannah Steele of Stillwater, Lily, Michael and Hannah Carden of Oklahoma City, Jaden Severe of Enid and Arianna Davis and Skyelar Severe of Jet; and a great-granddaughter, Sophia Severe of Enid.

Visiting hours at Goodwin Funeral home in Cherokee will be 1-5 p.m. today. The casket will be open at the church before service but closed during and after service and not reopened.

Donation will be handled by the funeral home for Jet Fire Department, Nash Fire Department or Alfalfa County EMS.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Nash Christian Church, officiated by Rev Gary Lillie. Burial will follow in Jet Cemetery. Arrangements by Goodwin Funeral Home, Cherokee.
