MILDRED CHARLENE TUCKER COLLINS
Mildred Charlene Tucker Collins, Jet, OK., was born on May 19, 1914, in Byron, OK. and died on June 10, 2005 in Phoenix, AZ, with her family at her side, following a brief illness. She was 91 years old. She was the daughter of John Randolph Tucker and Maude May Sutton Tucker. She attended Byron High School and Northwest Teachers College in Alva, OK. After college she taught for two years at Locust Grove southeast of Byron.
She married Ralph Henry Collins on December 27, 1935. They operated a grocery store in Byron until 1941, when they moved to the Collins family farm just west of Jet where she lived the rest of her life. They had two daughters, Marilyn Smith, Glendale, AZ. and Judy Riley, Kansas City, MO. Mrs. Collins taught Kindergarten in her home for several years, and then became a beautician with a beauty shop in her home from 1958 to 1976. She was also active in the First United Methodist Church of Jet and the Jet Senior Citizens Group. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband, who died on February 4, 1976; her parents; her siblings, Glen, Virgil, Inez, Cecil, Bessie, Huldah, Irene, Vern, George and Johnie; and her friend Elbert Jett. She is survived by her daughters; son-in-law John Smith, Glendale, AZ.; grandchildren, Michelle Burkhart, Melissa Stopkey (Stuart), Sonya Graves (Bodie), Sharla Sommer (Dane), and Jennifer Riley; her beloved great grandchildren, Kyle and Kara Burkhart, Sterling and Kelsey Stopkey, Erika and Alexa Graves, and Dylan, Logan, and Lauren Sommer; sisters-in-law Nadola Tucker, Claudie Trotter, Marie Collins, Edith Smith and Tillie Collins; many beloved nieces and nephews from the Tucker and Collins families, and many other family members and friends. She will always be remembered as our loving "Granny Great." Her dedication and love for her family will never be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Jet with Rev. Diana Pruitt, Rev. Dane Sommer and Rev. Kenneth Burnham officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery north of Jet with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Cherokee, OK.
