DOVIE LEONA SLOVACEK

The funeral for Dovie Leona Slovacek, 76, of Cherokee, OK., will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2005, at Burlington Church of Christ. Hartsell Johnson will officiate. Burial will be 4 p.m. in Kiowa Cemetery west of Slapout, OK., seven miles to Midway Church and then south to the cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Cherokee, OK.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

She was born Feb. 19, 1929, in Milagro, Guadalupe County, N.M. to George and Minnie Bertha Taylor Russell and died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005 at her home.

She married LeRoy Slovacek Feb. 2, 1952, in Booker, TX. She was a seamstress.

Surviving are five children, Kathryn L. Corr, Cherokee, OK., Vernon D. Slovacek, Helena, OK., Teresa Cottrill, Falmouth, KY., Leota Shipley, Independence, KY., and Rhonda White, Taylor Mill, KY.; five sisters, Minnie Lou Batman, Wichita, KS., Helen Batman, Woodward, OK., Cotey Horn, Burlington, OK., Carolyn Bond, Goddard, KS., Linda Russell, Burlington, OK.; two brothers, Samuel B. Russell, Norman, OK., Johnny Lynn Russell, Sulphur, OK.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, three brothers, and one sister.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Alzheimer's research.
