Bobby Bruce Schanbacher

The funeral for Bobby Bruce Schanbacher, 74, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Cherokee. The Rev. Jim Edmison and John R. Smith, pastor, will officiate. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Cherokee. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born Nov. 29, 1932, near Carmen to Murry Guy and Edna Mae Wade Schanbacher.

He attended school in Lambert, graduating in 1950. He graduated from North-western Teacher’s College in Alva in 1954. He married Beth Ann Haunschild Feb. 14, 1958. He later married Joan Meixner. He taught industrial arts at Viola, Kan., from 1960 to 1961. He was a dealer for Lindsay Soft Water Co. for a number of years, and he later owned and operated Bob Schanbacher’s Soft Water Co. He also was active in the family farming operation. He was a member of Prairie Valley and Cherokee United Methodist churches, Sooner Riders Club and Christian Motor Cycle Association.

Surviving are three daughters, Tracy Schanbacher of Dallas, Stacy Zahorsky of Alva and Tammy Schan-bacher of San Antonio: three brothers, Duane Schanbacher and Lyle Schanbacher, both of Cherokee, and Gene Schan-bacher of Murray, Ky.; one sister, Lois Walker of Cherokee; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Senior Citizens Center of Cherokee, Cherokee United Methodist Women or Cherokee High School girls’ athletic department.
