The funeral for LaVeta Mae Porter, 92, formerly of Ponca City, will be 10 a.m. today at Grace Memorial Chapel, Ponca City. Burial will be in Longwood Cemetery, Ponca City.
She was born May 11, 1914, in Goltry to Carl Sher-wood Wells and Essie Belle Tarr Wells and died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at Orange Park Medical Center, Orange Park, Fla.
She attended Goltry grade school and graduated from Jet High School in 1933. During World War II, she worked at the Boeing aircraft plant in Wichita, Kan., as an inspector.
She married Ernest Bud Porter April 17, 1945, in Jet. They made their first home in Woodward and in 1958 moved to Ponca City where she worked for the Holly Press Shop for nine years and later for C.R. Anthony. She moved to Middleburg, Fla., in 2000 where she was a member of Middleburg First Baptist Church and a former member of Asbury United Methodist Church of Ponca City. She also was a former member of Ponca City Osage Heights Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, Ponca City First Baptist Church and Disabled American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are one son, Carl Porter of Ponca City; one daughter, Nancy McMillan of Middleburg, Fla.; two brothers, Virgil Wells of Springdale, Ark., and Marvin Wells of Enid; two sisters, Vivian Watson of Spavinaw and Doris Jones of Enid; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, one brother and a sister.
