Howard J. Domnick
The funeral for Howard J. Domnick, 91, of Enid, will be 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Susan Southall will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born March 28, 1915, in Burlington to Noah and Emma Smith Domnick. He graduated from high school in 1932 and from Northwestern State College in 1936. He earned a master’s degree from Phillips University and completed nine hours of course work toward a doctorate from Oklahoma State University. He taught fifth and sixth grade in Driftwood then taught speech and English in the Waukomis school system in 1937. He later became a principal and superintendent in the Waukomis school system. He married Mary Martha Yauk July 20, 1940, in Kingfisher. She died May 2, 1997. He left teaching in 1948 to open a general store in Waukomis but returned to the school system in 1956. In 1965, he began teaching at Waller Junior High School and then moved to Enid High School in 1969 where he taught speech and English. He retired in 1979.
He was a member of Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association, First United Methodist Church, Enid Garden Club, Oklahoma Historical Society, Sons and Daughters of Cherokee Strip Pioneers and a charter member of Cherokee Strip Centennial Foundation.
He wrote several pageants depicting the opening of the Cherokee Strip and books about Oklahoma.
Surviving are his children, Sherry Porter of Springfield, Va., Vicki Meis of Centennial, Colo., and Kim Domnick of Chickasha; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, four brothers and one sister.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Foundation for Prader-Willi Research (FPWR).
