JACKIE WAYNE STURGEON
The funeral for Jackie Wayne Sturgeon, 72, of Helena, OK. will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Timberlake High School Auditorium, Helena. The Rev. Tommy Donaldson will officiate. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Helena.
He was born June 29, 1933 to Olin and Goldie Rockwell Sturgeon south of Helena, OK. and died Monday, March 6, 2006.
He graduated from Helena High School in 1951, where he was active in basketball and Future Farmers of America, earning the degree of American Star Farmer. He married LaJoy Minnick March 7, 1953, at Helena. She preceded him in death.
He was in the Army serving in Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged May 1955 and returned to Helena where he farmed and bought and sold cattle.
He was a member of First Christian Church, Helena. He served on Helena-Goltry Fair Board and was a member of Helena American Legion.
Surviving are his children, Jolynn Horn and Robin Ehrlich, both of Chickasha, OK. and Rustin Sturgeon of Goltry, OK.; two brothers, Lawrence “Swede” Sturgeon and Lynn “Red” Sturgeon, both of Helena, OK.; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, LaJoy, he was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to American Lung Association for emphyscma research.
