Helena-Funeral service for Roger Lee "Dutch" Nichols will be Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Timberlake Auditorium in Helena. Viewing will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Good Hope Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc., Helena. www.lanmanmemorials.com Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.

Roger was born on October 20, 1940 to Virgil Nichols and Margaret Pekrul Nichols in rural Helena and passed from this life on November 22, 2017 in Enid. Roger lived in the Helena area for all of his 77 years. He married Carlene Wadkins on August 28, 1959. Roger owned Dutch Oil Company and farmed in the Helena area. He served three terms as Alfalfa County Commissioner and was also on the NODA Board. He became a first responder in 1986 and was instrumental in starting the Volunteer Helena Ambulance Service. Roger was a retired Helena fire chief and an Alfalfa County EMS board member.

Those who preceded Roger in death include his wife, Carlene and his parents Margaret and Virgil Nichols.

Survivors include his two children, Scott Nichols and wife, Valerie of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Cody Ward of Edmond; grandchildren, David Arndt and Taylar Crow, Kacie Bramwell and husband, Jerrid, Logan Ward and Sydney Ward; great grandchildren, Ricky Crow, Danni Crow and Gavin Bramwell; two brothers, Jim Nichols and wife, Linda of Goltry and Dennis Nichols and wife, Susan of Helena and one sister, Donnis Kent of Helena.

Memorials may be given to the Helena Historical Society through the funeral home.
