Peggy May Hubbard

Good Hope Cemetery

Peggy May Hubbard was born May 22, 1926, at North Middlesex Hospital, Edmonton, Middlesex, England, to Thomas and Florence Bredstall Marra and departed this life Sunday Sept. 3, 2006, at Mercy Hospital, Oklahoma City, OK to join her heavenly Father.

Peggy spent her early years living on St. James Road Enfield, Middlesex, England, with her parents, her sister Iris, sister Margaret, and brother Raymond. Many of her fond childhood memories included the time she spent with her grandparents, John and Florence Bredstall. Peggy attended school at St. James Road Primary School but was forced to leave school at age 14 to work in a factory making rifles due to the onset of World War II.

The war brought a change to Peggy’s life when she met American soldier Ernest Hubbard of Strong City, OK. They married Feb. 24, 1945, at St. Matthew’s Church, Ponders End, England. Soon after, her life became a span between two continents when she left her home in England and began her new life in Oklahoma. Peggy spent her entire life living in Oklahoma. Peggy became an American citizen May 2, 1960. Even though Oklahoma was her home, she never forgot her British heritage and home. On more than 30 different occasions, she traveled to England to spend time with her English family.

She retired from C.R. Anthony Company in 1983 and began the job she probably enjoyed the most, being a grandmother and nanny.

She never met a stranger and had something in common with most everyone. Her British accent was a fascination for all who knew her, but her warmth and caring spirit was what endeared them to her.

She leaves behind three loving children, John and Linda Hubbard of Perkins, OK, Charles and Deborah Fesmire of Helena, OK, and Sharon and Richard Herrington of Oklahoma City, OK; one sister, Margaret Haeffner of Headington, Oxford, England; grandchildren, Chad Hubbard, Stephanie and Troy Shepard, Damon and Darcey Fesmire, Scott Fesmire, Michael Trammell, Jon Spence, Josh and Nicole Herrington; two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Kristen Shepard; and nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Iris Everett and brother, Raymond Marra.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept., 7, 2006, at Oakdale Baptist Church with interment at 2:30 p.m. at Good Hope Cemetery, Helena, OK. Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond, OK.
