Leon Richard Davis was born February 15, 1941 at his grandmother’s home in Helena, Oklahoma and passed away early Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at the age of 79 in Enid, Oklahoma after battling Huntington’s Disease for several years. A celebration of his life and family graveside service will be held at a later date at the First Christian Church of Helena and Good Hope Cemetery.

Leon’s parents were Floyd and Frances (Hager) Davis. He was raised on their farm west of Helena with younger sister, Lucille. From a young age, Leon helped his parents with the family farming. After graduating from Helena High School in 1959, he attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University with an accounting degree in 1964, coming home every weekend and summer to work on the farm. During this time, he married the love of his life, Roberta Norton, in Helena on September 2, 1961. He joked they honeymooned in McWillie when they went to a family reunion the next day. They lived in Stillwater while Leon finished school where their daughter, Karyn Louise, was born in 1963. After graduating and at his first job in Bartlesville, their son, Bryan Kenneth, was born in 1966. They moved to Enid to be closer to family in 1971, eventually moving back to Helena in 1977.

Leon was a strong, intelligent man, who worked hard and provided a good life for his family. His first job after college was as an accountant with Phillips 66 in Bartlesville, later learning computer programming with them. They moved to Enid when he got a job as a programmer at Champlin until they closed their Enid office, then went to work for George E. Failing Company and Union Equity. He retired as an accountant from Great Lakes Carbon. Throughout this time, Leon and Roberta continued to help their parents farm and had a small cattle operation before retiring. Leon loved all sports. He was a huge Oklahoma State fan, following basketball, baseball, and especially football, being a season ticket holder for many years. He and Roberta also supported Helena-Goltry athletics while Bryan was playing, then traveled the state to follow Timberlake football and basketball and Chisholm basketball. Leon and Roberta were named Timberlake Fans of the Year for 2008-2009. Leon was active in and held the office of treasurer of both the Helena Christian Church and Helena Historical Society.

Preceding him in death are his parents and his wife, Roberta, who passed away in January.

Leon is survived by his daughter, Karyn and Brian Gigoux of Carrier and son, Bryan and Stephanie Davis of San Antonio; grandsons, he loved so much: Cameron Davis and Logan Davis of San Antonio, and Austin Gigoux and his wife, Taylor of Stillwater; his sister, Lucille and Darrel McFarland of Enid; sister-in-law, Flora Mae and Doug Roszel of Skiatook; sister-in-law, Betty Norton of Cherokee, and a host of family and friends.

Memorials may be made to Helena Historical Society or the First Christian Church of Helena in Leon and Roberta’s names.
