HELENA — Celebration of life service for Robert R. Carter, 86, will be 2 p.m. today, Dec. 2, 2014, at Lanman Chapel in Helena. Burial will be at Good Hope Cemetery, with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Helena. Memories may be shared at www.lanmanmemorials.com. There will be no public viewing.

Robert was born Jan. 5, 1928, the son of Charles and Ruth Packard Carter northeast of Helena on the family farm. He passed from this life in Enid on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014.

He lived and farmed in the Helena area most of his lifetime.

He served in the U.S. Army for a time and because he was the only son in the family, he was allowed out early. He was a member of the American Legion.

Robert and Pauline Paine were married Nov. 5, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas.

One of his favorites pastimes was playing cards and dominoes with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline on June 18, 2012; his parents, Charles and Ruth Carter; and two brothers-in-law, Jack Rhodes and T.P. “Woody” Woodford.

Robert is survived by three children and their spouses, Linda and Jerry Ging of Helena, Kathy and John Cutright of Byron and Virginia and Jerry Palmer of Helena; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sylva Rhodes and Dorotha Woodford, both of Enid; and other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Circle of Love or Oklahoma Medical Research, cancer division, through the funeral home.
