Mrs. Charley F. (Ruth) Carter, 71, Helena, OK. died Saturday, January 6, 1973, in an Enid hospital.
She was a life long resident of the Helena area, born on a farm northeast of there June 13, 1901 to Loren S. and Leah C. Coffield Packard. She attended Star grade school and graduated from Enid Business College. She married Charley F. Carter, March 3, 1926, in Medicine Lodge, KS. Following their marriage they moved to a farm two miles east of where she was born. In February 1966 they moved to Helena where she has lived ever since. She was a member of the Christian Church in Helena, and the Rebekkah Lodge, Jet, OK.
Survivors are her husband, Charley F. of the home; one son, Robert R. Carter, Helena, OK.; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Sylva) Rhodes, Mesquite, TX., and Mrs. T. P. (Dorotha) Woodford, Marysville, CA.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, in the Christian Church, Helena, with Rev. Will Rogers Weaver officiating. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Fossett Funeral Home of Helena.

Helena, OK. -- Charley Freeburn Carter, 78, died Monday, October 14, 1974, in an Enid, OK. hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, in the Christian Church, Helena, with Rev. Ervin Crain officiating. Interment will be in Good Hope Cemetery, Helena, under the direction of Fossett Funeral Home, Helena.
Carter was born January 12, 1896, in Livonia, Missouri, to David W. and Sarah Hinerman Carter. At the age of 4, he moved with his parents in a covered wagon to a farm north of Helena, Oklahoma Territory. He attended Tucker grade school and served in the Army during WW1. On March 3, 1926, he married Ruth Packard at Medicine Lodge, KS. She preceded him in death January 6, 1973. After their marriage they moved to a farm northeast of Helena and moved to the town of Helena in 1966. He was a member of the American Legion at Goltry, OK.
Survivors include one son, Robert R. Carter, Helena, OK.; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Sylva) Rhodes, Mesquite, TX., and Mrs. T.P. (Dorotha) Woodford, Helena, OK.; one brother, Virge Carter, Cherokee, OK.; one sister, Mrs. Orpha Morgan, Carmen, OK.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
