Ray Virgil Viers, age 80, of Enid, died Monday morning May 27, 1996 at St. Mary's Mercy Hospital. He Was Born April 14, 1916, on a farm in Alfalfa County near Carmen, Oklahoma to Charles H. And Eva May McDowell Viers. He Attended the West Clay School and graduated from Lambert High School in 1935. He Also attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford, Oklahoma. He was a World War II Veteran with the Combat Engineers Company C. 6th Division from May, 1941 to October, 1945. He was awarded the Pacific Battle Ribbons and the Bronze Star with two oakleaf clusters. He was baptized at Prairie Valley Methodist Church near Carmen at an early age. He married LeDora Elizabeth Owsley on June 13, 1948 at Enid. He Was a ceramic tile setter in Enid and the surrounding area. He retired in 1979 from the Building Maintenance Department at the Enid Public School System. After Retirement he enjoyed his favorite pastimes of fishing, gardening, and golfing.

In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, of 47 Years, he is survived by one daughter, Raelene Virginia Tripp and her husband, John of Enid; one grandson, George Lindsey Tripp of Enid; and one uncle, Ray McDowell of Girard, Kansas. He will be greatly missed by a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, and twin granddaughters: Eugina and Regina Tripp.

Funeral services for Mr. Viers will be at 10:30 AM Thursday in the Heninger – Allen Chapel with the Rev. Dallas Caldwell, Headmaster of Oklahoma Bible Academy officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 PM in the Cherokee Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Henninger – Allen Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Legion Children's Home in Ponca City, Oklahoma, or to the Oklahoma Bible Academy Building Fund in Enid with Henninger – Allen Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
