Enid, OK — The funeral for George Alton Trotter, 95, will be 10:30 a.m. today, March 20, 2009, at Friends Church, Cherokee. The Revs. Ken Keeling and Robert Kirkpatrick will officiate. Burial will be in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Cherokee. Viewing will be prior to service at the church.
He was born Sept. 12, 1913, in Byron to George and Lucy Orpha Smith Trotter and died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in Wakita.
He attended school in Byron and graduated from Driftwood high school in 1933.
He married Goldie Bertha Hay July 4, 1937, in Cherokee. They made their home in Driftwood where he worked for A.J. Oblander at his service station from 1937 to 1943. He served in the Army from Jan. 13, 1943. to Feb. 12, 1946, with seven of those months overseas.
They moved to Cherokee in 1946 where he worked 10 years for Henry Oakley as a mechanic and then worked 18 years for the City of Cherokee as city mechanic. He also served as a Cherokee Firefighter. She died Oct. 28, 1969.
He married Claudia Daniels Tucker in 1976 in Amorita. He attended Cherokee Friends Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Carole Grover of Byron; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both wives, Goldie and Claudia.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Cherokee Friends Church or Wakita Community Health Center.
