DELBERT SCHANBACHER
The funeral for Delbert Schanbacher, 89, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Cherokee. The Revs. Jim Edmison and Gail Edmison will officiate. Burial will follow in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. Arrange-ments are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Cherokee. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
He was born April 4, 1917, to Murray Eugene and Edna Mae Wade Schanbacher and died Friday, July 14, 2006, in Alva.
He moved with his family, at age 6, from Garber to the Carmen and Lambert area and remained in Alfalfa County. He was a stockman, farmer, sheep shearer and raised and trained border collies. He was a consulting engineer for C.H. Guernsey Company and worked for AEC. He was a member of Prairie Valley Church and Cherokee United Methodist Church.
He married Glendola M. Jenlink on September 1, 1940, in Cherokee.
Surviving are three sons, Floyd Schanbacher of Fredericksburg, Ohio, Larry Schanbacher of Brewster, N.Y., and Monty Schanbacher of Cherokee; one daughter, Debra Rummel of Broken Arrow; one sister, Lois Walker of Cherokee; four brothers, Duane, Lyle and Bobby Schanbacher, all of Cherokee and Gene Schanbacher of Murray, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to diabetes education fund.
