Cherokee Municipal Cemetery


The funeral for Elbridge W. Symns, 94, who died October 4, 1992, at Alfalfa County Hospital, was at 2 PM Wednesday at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Gary Hornish officiated. Burial was in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery, directed by Goodwin Funeral Home.

He was born November 17, 1897, in Nickerson, Kansas, to Dr. Theo and Sara Elizabeth Wiley Symns and as a young child moved with the family to Oklahoma, settling in the Ingersoll area. They later moved to a farm north of Cherokee. He graduated from Ingersoll High school school in 1916 and attended several colleges in Kansas and Oklahoma. He worked with small gas engines and had a small engine and bicycle sales and service business. He was a member of the Christian Church.

He is survived by a step brother, Dr. J.C. Symns of Hutchinson, Kansas, and one nephew.

Memorials may be made to the Alfalfa County Hospital through the funeral home.
