JULY 1, 1939 ~ JUNE 17, 2018

Clifford James Sanborn was born in Cherokee on July 1, 1939 to parents, Clifford Loren Sanborn and Alice Brown Sanborn and passed from this life on June 17, 2018 near Cherokee. He was raised in the Cherokee area and had lived there his lifetime. James and Kathleen Carol Guentert were married in Wichita on January 10, 1978 and had spent 43 years together.

James had many interests some of which were motorcycles and old cars. He loved classic cars and had helped organize the Crystal Car Club in Cherokee. He was a serious OU fan and everyone knew NOT to interrupt a game. James was very opinionated about two things: religion and politics. The oilfield was his life. He started as a roughneck then moved into drilling around 1977. At one point he left the oilfield and worked in Ritter’s Body Shop. After this he worked for the County, then the City as a grader and then street superintendent. Then he was back to what he loved the most, the oilfield as a tool pusher.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Alice Sanborn; a daughter, Torey Sanborn; a son, Conrad “Butch” Lee Powell Sanborn; sisters, Linda Maples and Yvonne Sanborn.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathy Sanborn; children, Tammie Sue Nelson, Jimmy Sanborn, Jamie Sue Day, Shelly Bradford and husband, Willie; daughter-in-law, Samantha Powell; twenty grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tom Sanborn and wife, Anna and Robert Sanborn; one sister, Betty Jo Seiger and husband, Harry.
