ROSS BENTON PATTON

The funeral for Ross Benton Patton, 80, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Cherokee with Dr. Ron Hansen officiating. Burial will follow in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home,Inc. of Cherokee. Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with family present from 2 to 5 p.m.

He was born Nov. 1, 1925, in the family home south of Cherokee to Georgia Brown and Ross Patton. He died May 27, 2006, in his family home. He attended elementary school at Lincoln Center and graduated from Cherokee High School in 1943. During World War II, he enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served on the USS LST 953 as a motor machinist mate 3rd class. He was honorably discharged June 6, 1946.

He married Loretta Maddox Oct. 15, 1947, at the First Christian Church in Cherokee. They farmed and ranched in Oklahoma and Kansas throughout their 58 years of marriage. He was a member of First Christian Church of Cherokee, where he served as a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta, of Cherokee; two daughters, Martha Marshall, of Vinita and Tammy Jane Mathews, of Chickasha; one son, David Benton Patton, of Vienna, Mo.; one sister, Judy Patton Forney, of Enid; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Midway Class Scholarship Fund, through the funeral home.
