Cherokee Municipal Cemetery


Graveside service for J. W. Moore, 66, was at 2 PM Saturday in the Cherokee Municipal Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Walters officiated. Arrangements were by Goodwin Funeral Home. He died January 4, 1994, at his home in Cherokee.

In he was born July 7, 1927, in Duncan to Clifford Patrick and Lula May Woods Moore. He grew up in the Duncan–Antlers community and attended North Wilson School.

He served as a paratrooper during World War II and was captured by the Germans. He was a prisoner of war for 7 1/2 months. He received his discharge from the service November 27, 1947, at Camp Crowder, Missouri.

On July 17, 1954, he married Alice Sanders in Cherokee where they have since lived. He was a truck driver for Hamm and Phillips, retiring in 1979 due to ill health.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Robert Simpkins of Woodland Park, Colorado; a sister, Pat Jansen of Shawnee; a brother, Clifford of Konawa; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.
