ROBERT HOLMES HORTON

The funeral for Robert "Bob" Holmes Horton, 83, of Bartlesville, OK., will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at Sneed Chapel at First United Methodist Church, Bartlesville. The Rev. Paul Bowles will officiate. A graveside service is 3:30 p.m. in Cherokee Cemetery, Cherokee, OK. The Rev. John Haven will officate. Arrangements are by Stumpff Funeral Home and Crematory, Bartlesville, OK.

He was born May 28, 1922, in Ryan, OK. to Clair B. and Glymuth Sparkman Horton and died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at his home.

He spent most of his childhood in Cleveland, Okla., graduating from Cleveland High School and receiving a degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1951.

During World War II, he served as a war correspondent for the Army Air Corps. He served in the European Theater and received the American Defense Service Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the EAME Service Ribbon with one Silver Star and one Bronze Star.

He married Frances Ellen Coppock Sept. 5, 1948, in Cherokee. He retired after 35 years from Phillips Petroleum Co. as assistant manager of marketing. He was a member of the Hole-in-One Club at Hillcrest Country Club, Masonic Lodge of Muskogee, and was a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels.

Surviving are his wife, Frances, of the home in Bartlesville, OK.; two daughters, Deborah Ellen Bell of College Grove, Tenn., and Katherine Lynn Horton of Skiatook, OK.; one son, Robert Holmes Horton Jr. of Stillwater, OK.; one sister, Betty Lou Reznick of Oklahoma City, OK.; and three grandchildren.
