Orie Delbert Hodgson

The funeral for Orie Delbert Hodgson, 84, was at 2 p.m. Friday at the Friends Church with the Rev. Dave Emery officiating. Burial was in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery, directed by Goodwin Funeral Home. He died March 7, 1995, at Cherokee Manor nursing home.

He was born Dec. 18, 1910, in Driftwood to Oliver and Ida Johnson Hodgson. He attended school at Driftwood High School in 1929. He then attended barber school in Oklahoma City.

On July 18, 1932, he marred Leota Harvey in Medford. He worked for Kingery Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator building ponds and terraces. He also was a mechanic in Enid before moving to Wichita, Kan., where he worked for Boeing Aircraft. He returned to the farm north of Cherokee in 1946, retiring from farming in 1985. He moved to Cherokee and worked at Cherokee Sale Barn for several years. He was a member of the Friends Church and a former member of the Driftwood Board of Education and the Friends Church Board.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Ronnie of Cherokee; a daughter, Janet Tullis of Enid; a brother, Jim of Winfield, Kan; Two sister, Lena Johnson of Enid and Pauline McNett of Cherokee; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the church.
