Cherokee Municipal Cemetery


Cherokee – The funeral for Lonnie Paul Harmon, 56, will be 2 PM Monday at Cherokee First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roland Youngberg officiating. Burial will follow in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery under direction of Goodwin Funeral Home.

He was born September 11, 1943, at Minot, North Dakota, to Arthur Jefferson and Marjorie Agnes Jones Harmon and died Tuesday, November 23, 1999 at Pratt Regional Medical Center in Pratt, Kansas.

He grew up in North Dakota and worked with his family as a custom cutter. On September 18, 1966, he married Nancy Ann Stout at Yewed. They lived in Lambert 17 years before moving to Cherokee in 1993. He was a professional welder and truck driver and worked for Wilson Manufacturing Inc. for the past nine years. He worked with scouting and had been a leader and chef at scout camp. He was a member of Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy of the home; two sons, Darren Lee and Dustin James, both of Cherokee; three daughters, Martelle Kay of Oklahoma City, Tina Marie Roach of Carmen and Misty Dawn Martinez of Alva; his mother, Marjorie of Mohall, North Dakota; three sisters, Pat Bjork of Minot, North Dakota, Rena Rios and Karen Utt, both of Tucson, Arizona; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Alfalfa County Historical Society or Cherokee First United Methodist Church.
