NORA LEE BAYLIFF CURTIS

Funeral services for Nora Lee Curtis, 92, will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2005, at the Cherokee First United Methodist Church with the Reverends Jim and Gail Edmison officiating. Burial will be in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery directed by Goodwin Funeral Home. She died December 20, 2005, at the Cherokee Manor, Cherokee, OK.

She was born April 8, 1913, in Cherokee, OK to Henry Alison and Lydia Cook Bayliff. She graduated from Lambert High School in 1931, where she excelled in basketball and was a member of the Alfalfa County All-Star Basketball Team. She married Matthew Clarence Curtis on September 24, 1931, in Enid, OK. They made their home southwest of Cherokee on the Cook place, where Nora was raised. Nora was born a birth-right Quaker and she served extensively throughout her lifetime at the Cherokee Friends Church where she taught Sunday School and crafts. Nora and her sister Ruth Widner also led a popular family music ensemble that performed at numerous church and social functions. She was a member of the Cro-tat-em Club, a charter member of the Alfalfa Progressive Club, and served as an Avon Representative.

She is survivied by her daughter Jeanne Pelter; daughter-in-law, Judy Curtis Green and husband, Bill; five grandchildren, Monte Pelter and wife Laurie, Kelly Pelter Stein and husband Sam, Shelly Pelter Davis and husband Tommy, Leslie Curtis Williams and husband Scott, John Curtis and wife Jana; 12 great-grandchildren, Matthew Pelter, Michael Pelter, Patrick Stein, Kelsy Stein, Haven Skye Davis, Karli Curtis, Adam Curtis, Olivia Curtis, Zach Vandagriff, Erin Vandagriff, Rebecca Williams and Zac Williams.

She was preceded in death by her husband Matt, son Carroll Dale Curtis, son-in-law Charles Pelter, five brothers and six sisters.

Memorials may be made to Cherokee First United Methodist Church and Prairie Valley Methodist Church through the funeral home. (Paid Obit 12-23-1)
