Octava “Tava” Myers Brown
Octava Myers Brown of Cherokee, OK passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 28, 2008, in Dallas, TX.
“Tava” was born on a farm near Byron, OK on Feb. 5, 1924, to Oscar Thomas and Blanche May Myers. She graduated from Cherokee High School. Tava worked at Alfalfa County Bank and retired after many years from Liberty Federal Savings and Loan. She also enjoyed immensely working at the Fashion Cottage where her elegance was most appreciated.
Octava and Jimmy Lloyd “Peanuts” Brown were married Sept. 1, 1946, in Alva, OK and made their home in Cherokee. She was a very active member of the Cherokee Friends Church, as well as the community, in school and civic activities, and belonged to the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. Tava enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. She was the definition of gracefulness, poise and dignity for everyone she touched.
Tava was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy, on May 30, 2003, and also by two brothers and two sisters.
Tava leaves a loving family, including son, Michael Brown and his wife Stephanie of Dallas, TX; daughter, Machele Guin of San Antonio, TX; two granddaughters, Aimee Guin Yowell and her husband Lee of Glen Allen, VA, and Brandi Brown Harry and her husband Chris of Flint, TX; two great-granddaughters, Lilly and Ella Yowell; great-grandson, Hayden Harry; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to celebrate Tava’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Cherokee Friends Church with the Revs. Ken Keeling and John Havens officiating. Interment follows in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Goodwin Funeral Home of Cherokee. Visitation at the funeral home will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.Memorials may be given in her honor to the Cimarron Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross through Goodwin Funeral Home or may donate blood in Tava’s memory.
