Cherokee Municipal Cemetery


Ruth Adaline Lister, 90, died January 13, 1990, at Alfalfa County Hospital. Her funeral was at 2 PM Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Alan Runge and the Rev. W. Dean Rainwater officiating. Burial was in Cherokee Municipal Cemetery directed by Goodwin Funeral Home.

She was born April 3, 1899, southwest of Cherokee to John Wesley and Mary Jane Barr Turner. She graduated from Cherokee High School in 1918 and attended business college in Wichita. She and her sister operated the DeWitt Barber and Beauty Shop in Cherokee in the 1930s and early 1940s.

On March 25, 1950, she married James O. Adams, who died September 12, 1970. She married Cleve C. Lister on November 12, 1975, in Cherokee. They lived on a farm until moving to Cherokee in 1979. She remained active in farming until her health failed in recent years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Alfalfa County Historical Society and a former member of Cherokee Business amd Professional Women.

Surviving are her husband of the home and two nieces, Mary June Hedgpeth of Cherokee and Lucille Buehler of Bellevue, Washington.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Cancer Division or to the church through the funeral home.
