CECIL LOUIS SPURGEON SR.
A memorial service for Cecil Louis Spurgeon Sr., 89, of Wichita, Kan., formerly of Aline, OK., will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, Goddard, Kan. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lanman Funeral Home Chapel, Cherokee, OK. The Revs. Clayton Durbin and Van Dean Spurgeon will officiate. Burial will be in Carmen City Cemetery, Carmen, OK.
He was born March 22, 1916, near Aline, OK. to Christopher De Jarnette and Florence Maletha Mitchell Spurgeon and died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005.
He graduated from Aline High School in 1934 and attended business college in Oklahoma City. He returned to Aline to assist his parents’ farming operations.
He married Winona Marie Lehman July 25, 1941. They farmed from 1944 to 1955 and moved to Wichita, KS. He worked for Boeing Co. 23 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of Woodlawn Christian Church, Past Noble Grand of Aline Odd Fellows Lodge and Wichita Moose Lodge. He was assistant scoutmaster.
Surviving are his wife, Marie of the home; one son, Cecil Louis Spurgeon Jr., of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, three brothers and four sisters.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Harry Hynes Hospice or Alzheimer’s Foundation.
