Hazel “Jean” Downing, 82, departed this life Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at Emporia Ave. Church of Christ, 1144 S. Emporia, Wichita, KS. Graveside services are at 3 p.m. Thursday in Byron-Amorita Cemetery, Byron, OK.

Jean was born Sept. 22, 1925, on a farm near Byron, OK to John and Mabel Sluder Cutright. She graduated from Byron High School in 1944 and married her high school sweetheart, Clarence Vernon Downing on March 25, 1944.

She was a seamstress, enjoyed doing for others, but her greatest joy was her family. She was a long-time active member of Emporia Ave. Church of Christ.

Surviving are her husband, Vernon; daughters, Trudy Hall of Ponca City, OK, and Judy Downing of Wichita; grandsons, Jeff Hall of Collinsville, OK and Jammie (Vickie) Hall of West Des Moines, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Jason, Brandon, Emily and Nathan; one sister, Margaret Seibel of Wichita; sisters-in-law, Ruby Nell Cutright of Cherokee, OK and Dorine Cutright of Byron; and numerous relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Walt, Warren and Joe.

She leaves a legacy of love, joy and integrity.

Memorial established with Emporia Ave. Church of Christ. Services by Broadway Mortuary, Wichita, KS.
